It was from a vintage display – but it was enough to ensure Swansea City bounced back from their debacle in Huddersfield on the weekend with a narrow win over Coventry, writes Fraser Watson.

In a game devoid of many chances, it was Ben Cabango’s second half header that proved the difference as the centre back nodded in Connor Hourihane’s corner. 

The three points were even more imperative given that Brentford and Watford both won, with Steve Cooper’s side remaining fourth but just one point off both sides with two games in hand. 

The first half took time to come to life with Swansea striker Jamal Lowe having the only early chance, finding pace down the left wing before cutting in and seeing his angled shot blocked by away keeper Ben Wilson. 

But as the half wore on, Swansea found more threat and after Yan Dhanda linked with Connor Roberts, the right back’s low cross was side footed wastefully wide with Lowe – seeking his first goal since January 16^th. 
Dhanda himself then curled a 15 yard shot narrowly over and at the other end, Maxime Biamou pulled a volleyed chance across goal. 

Deadlock finally broken

But nine minutes after the break, the deadlock was broken when Connor Hourihane’s in-swinging corner was met by Cabango, who made no mistake in nodding past a flapping Wilson. 

Lowe’s wait went on after a mazy run culminated in him whipping a low shot inches past the post and Matt Grimes also blasted just wide from 20 yards – but Swansea then endured a late scare when Kyle McFadzean turned a shot wide from close range. 

The home side were solid in the dying minutes though as they closed out another vital win with a 17^th clean sheet of the season – and this Saturday will welcome Bristol City to the Liberty as the race for promotion continues to hot up.
